Pilates

Contact Us Pilates is a method of body conditioning based upon a well-constructed philosophical foundation developed by the late Joseph Pilates. The core of the method brings an "Awareness of your own body", through control and resulting in the facilitation of good movement. By improving the body's awareness and focus, tension is released and correct postural alignment is taught. One is encouraged to breathe more efficiently by breathing laterally into the lower rib cage.

Aims
The primary aim of Pilates is to strengthen the core postural muscles that stabilise the torso and the spine. The movements are based upon eight underlying key principles:

Relaxation - Breathing - Concentration - Flowing Movements

Alignment - Co-ordination - Centering - Stamina

The body is re-aligned with the mind working the body through precise, controlled, flowing movements playing a key role in rehabilitation. From injuries to back problems - Pilates is suitable for the sports person and the first-time exerciser!

Putting Pilates into practice
Beginning with a one-to-one session, your body alignment will be assessed. The basics of the method will be explained. Then we find your neutral spine and pelvis, locating your deep stabilising muscles.

Sessions are continued only if you enjoy the first one and you are determined to work hard. As you continue with the exercies you will feel changes occurring throughout your body.

At the end of your private tuition, you may be keen to join a small class of participants. If you prefer to continue with the one-to-one sessions, that is up to you.

How often and for how long?
Pilates movements should be practised and enjoyed every day! One session on a matt will release stress and tension and focus your mind and body for the day ahead, feeling stretched, stronger and alive! Regular input is imperative to mind and body conditioning, as the mind works with repetition to retain the muscle connections.

For positive results
Begin with short sessions of approximately 15 minutes, building up gradually to an extended daily session of a maximum of 30 to 45 minutes. The extended sessions can be done daily or on alternate days.

Please note that Pilates is only available at the Rinnans Clinic in Balfron.
